Zine & Stamp Workshop

In this workshop, participants will get to learn to make two types of zines, and be guided on basic design principle to make an effective zine. Participants will have access to hand carved stamps to decorate their zines, and embellish them with the decorative materials available.

What’s Included:
All materials are provided. Tools and stamps are available for use during the workshop. At the end of workshop, all participants will bring back their finished zines.

Limited to maximum 15 pax.
Workshop fee is RM125/pax, inclusive of one KLABF 2025 entry ticket worth RM25.

About The Storyteller’s Caravan:
The Storyteller’s Caravan @ Fazlyn Malek is a graphic designer by training whose 20+ years in the corporate world pushed her to indulge her exreme curiosity. This resulted in art explorations in various disciplines from participating in anthologies and creating a planning journal to silkscreen printing, block carving and printing, watercolours, acrylics and quick dry clay creations.

She currently happily combines her love for writing and art in various creations from journals to zines to stamps and art.

Creating (Simple) Cyanotype Art Book Workshop
Workshop by Studio Sunprint (MY)
 

Discover the joy of combining light, found objects and bookmaking in this hands-on cyanotype workshop. Participants will learn how to create unique blueprints using sunlight / UV light and assemble their prints into a simple hand-bound art book.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll take home a beautiful handmade booklet — filled with your original blueprints and personalised touches. No prior experience is required, just curiosity and a love for making.

What’s Included:
Each participants will receive a kit that makes 10 mini prints and other book making accessories. By the end of the workshop, they’ll take home a beautiful handmade booklet — filled with their original blueprints and personalised touches.

What to Bring:
Participants is advised to bring (i) small objects like flowers, leaves, film negatives, laces, stencils or any personal artifacts that cast interesting shadows or silhouettes (ii) writing tools such as pen and pencil.

Limited to maximum 10 pax.

About Studio Sunprint:
As a dedicated full-time artist and educator, Balqis from Studio Sunprint brings over a decade of experience in the art and design industry, with a focus on printmaking. Specialising in alternative processes called cyanotype, she intertwines her passion for nature with her work, incorporating foraging activities and visual storytelling to explore themes of biodiversity, resilience, and temporal beauty.

Voices to Power #4: Causes, Community, and the Zine (Zine-making) Workshop
Workshop by New Naratif (SEA) and Afi Noor (MY)
 

In this special edition of the Voices to Power workshop, participants will be guided on the art of zine-making with a focus on creating zines about a cause of their choosing – whether it’s politics, human rights, or the environment. Participants will learn how to express themselves by creating a zine that will be both a piece of art and a tool for finding allies, fostering solidarity, and most of all, creating change.

What’s Included:
Zine templates and basic stationery will be provided. 

What to Bring:
Participants are welcome to bring their favourite stationery items, their personal journal or diary (something that can inspire them ad the causes close to their hearts), and information on the cause that they’d like to explore in their zine.

Limited to maximum 15 pax.

Afi Noor (MY) is a poet based in Kuala Lumpur. She has read and performed in Malaysia, Singapore, London and at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and was part of British Council’s 2024 Cipta Seni Incubator and Rimbun Dahan’s 2019 Writer-in-Residence. Her publications include the chapbook Ten Poems (2012) and featured in Kisah Journal by PUSAKA and SVARA Journal. She was the programme lead for the Musawah Artists Collective and was the organiser of the monthly poetry workshop series called Spill the Ink Poetry Lab (2017-2018), connecting established Malaysian and international writers with homegrown poets.

Buku & Chop: Accordion Journal & Stamp Workshop

The Buku & Chop Workshop have two segments:
 
First Segment: The participant will learn how to make an accordion journal. The journal will be completed with a randomly designed hand silkscreen printed cover. Embellish with string enclosure and charm.
 
Second Segment: The participant will be guided on creating their own personal narrative by using the hand carved stamps and available decorative materials to embellish their accordion journal.
 

What’s Included:
All materials and tools will be provided.

What to Bring:
Participants can bring any of their own stationery.

Limited to maximum 15 pax.

Book Binding: Coptic Stitch Journal Workshop
Workshop by Little Syam (MY)
 

Participants will learn to stitch a book from scratch using an ancient binding technique: coptic stitching. The book will be completed with a stitch of chainlike patterns on an exposed spine, an assembly of quality cotton fabrics on its hardcover, and will be finished with embellishments of bookmarks, elastic bands, and metal corners.

What’s Included:
Material kits, tools and certificate of attendance will be provided.

What to Bring:
Participants can bring any of their own stationery.

Limited to maximum 15 pax.
Workshop fee is RM210/pax, inclusive of one KLABF 2025 entry ticket worth RM25.
