JZZP

Short Bio / About Organization:

At JZZP, we are committed to building a platform that supports independent Chinese artists. In addition to photobooks and artists' books, we have recently introduced a new line of text-based publications that reflect our interest in the intersection of image and reality—particularly as it relates to the social, cultural, and political dynamics within China.

Since our founding in 2011, JZZP has published over 60 titles. Our publications have been recognized by institutions such as the Aperture PhotoBook Awards, Les Rencontres d’Arles Book Awards, and the Kassel PhotoBook Award.

General Manual Vol.1: Contemporary Punctum
The eponymous publication focuses on the various problems and dilemmas faced by contemporary people, regularly featuring writings from scholars, artists and activists in the fields of art, philosophy and culture. These include essays, prose, fiction, and other forms of writing.

THEY SAID WHO WILL LISTEN TO YOUR SONGS by Anaïs Martane
In early 2002, at just 22 years old, French photographer Anaïs Martane returned to Beijing with her camera. It was six months after the city won its bid to host the Olympic Games, a moment when Beijing—at the dawn of its urban transformation—exuded a unique atmosphere blending nostalgia with visions of the future.

This book presents a selection of photographs taken by Anaïs between 2002 and 2005, capturing everyday moments of musicians as they moved between life and performance. Rather than offering a sociological portrait of “Beijing youth,” these images serve as intimate visual memories of growing up together.
